Day 7

'And on the seventh day, thou shalt find thy apartment'... so it was foretold. As it happened, the seventh day also turned out to be Good Friday, both literally and metaphorically. Some would have even called this D-Day (for the non-historians among us, the D stands for Decision)!

Having seen THE apartment the previous day and having had to haggle over the rent to pay, we had agreed to meet at the apartment to finalise our agreement. So bright and early we awoke from our sleep on this fateful day and headed towards the apartment after some breakfast. Our friends, Martin and RuRu (previously known to you as JuJu - we had misunderstood her name), kindly offered to lend us their bikes and so we cycled the last few blocks to the apartment to get a feel for the area. Truly a great and quiet neighboorhood, just next to the Siglap Connector, a nice walking path that leads straight to the Playa (a Singaporean word I believe...;-) ).

So the moment has come that our 7, well maybe 8 readers (on that note, spread the word, this lowly and poor student, married to a successful wife, could use the confidence boost...) have been waiting for ...;-)

The entrance hall

The living room with massive balcony

The kitchen, with at the end a little outside space for a washer and dryer

Our pool view...oh and pool of course
So that is part one of the pictures. The entrance hall, a lovely living room that gives onto a great balcony, that has a nice pool view. Next, your quarters...

Your room, if you come to visit
Your very own bathroom
And now, the Le master bedroom and attached bathroom...

As you can see this is a modest apartment, but we are nonetheless satisfied with it ;-). No, in all honesty, it’s amazing and we are delighted with it. It is a 15 min walk to the closest metro, but by bike it’s only 5 mins and in the opposite direction we have the beach, with all its activities and chill-out possibilities, a mere 15 mins walk (pictures to follow, as we took a bike ride to the beach on day 9).

After having agreed to pay the required amount and signing over a cheque, we were expected in our friend and previous-football buddy’s place, Johan. They live in the very expat-friendly centre of the island and to protect his family’s privacy I didn’t take any pictures. Suffice to say that we had a great lunch, catching up and sharing experiences. Johan, his wife and two, soon-to-be-three, children have been here for a year and they love it. I must say that our first impressions of the place are exactly the same. We too love it! Johan and his wife were great to hang out with and he has been so kind as to try and hook me up with some much-needed football. As well as that, his children are delightful and my wife fell in love with their youngest, Marie-Louise (always smiling).

Having had a lovely-pizza-laden-lunch we were advised to go to this place on a Dempsey Hill, just off of Holland Road, where we could find outdoor/garden furniture, something that will be needed to dress ‘our’ beautiful balcony. You can see Elli here, trying out a possible chill-out alternative…

A few extra snaps of the surroundings of Dempsey Hill

After having tried out various possibilities we decided to head to town, to see Orchard Road by night. However, before the night-cover would fall we were finally able to take a picture of what we knew as 'The Tree'… a picture that is three years in the making, as the camera wasn’t working properly last time we were on the same spot.

Following on from this to us historic viewing, we strolled down Orchard Road in the hope of catching a movie. Unfortunately, the film we were hoping to watch (The Hunting Games) was fully-booked and we would have had to wait until midnight, something we were not quite up for after the monumental day that had preceded. Instead, we went for some dinner and took a few snaps before catching some shut-eye…
This truly was a Good Friday…Happy belated Easter to all of you!

Our blog seems to be gaining popularity...Oh wait...

These shoes are made for walking, that's just what they did... and that was all they could do in one day...  (you were hoping for a rhyme, weren't you...)
